Sometimes you need to "take a picture" of a website or of the program you are using or of your computer desktop. How can you do that? If you are using a Windows computer, here's what you need to do.
Navigate to the screen (or program) you want a picture of. It should be on your computer as large as possible.
Press ALT+the Print Screen (PRT SCRN) button on your keyboard. This will seem like it did nothing but it actually put the contents of the currently active screen into the computer's clipboard. Pressing the Print Screen button without using the ALT key will capture your entire screen including the status bar, etc.
NOTE: The ALT key is located right next to the space bar. The Print Screen button is located on the right-hand side of the keyboard (to the left of or above the 10-key pad).
IrfanView
Open IrfanView (this is an application on your computer desktop)
Select Edit and then Paste and you should see something like this:
Draw a rectangle around the part of the screen that you actually want to keep. If you are saving whatever you crop as an avatar for Edmodo or other sites, it's a good idea to crop your item to a square if possible since that's what the sites want.
Select Edit and then Crop selection.
Your image may still be too big for use on the web, so select Image and then Image Size and set the maximum width to 500 pixels. NOTE: If you are using your screen shot for a presentation, you will probably want to save it at this point and not resize it!
Your image may appear a bit blurry after the resize. If it does, select Filter and then Sharpen.
Now, you're ready to save your image. Select File and then Save As.
Navigate to the folder in which you wish to save and change the File name to be something like the YourGrade-YourName-name of the site or program you have "captured". Change the Save as type to JPEG OR PNG to save in a web format. You can leave the compression settings set to the defaults and press the OK button on the next screen(s).
PhotoFiltre
Open PhotoFiltre (this is an application on your computer desktop)
Select Edit and then Paste as new image and you should see something like this:
Make sure the white arrow is selected in the drawing toolbar and draw a rectangle around the part of the screen that you actually want to keep. You will want to get rid of the browser toolbar and may want to crop out other things.
Select Image and then Crop and your image should then look more like:

Paint:
Go to the Paint program and paste what you just copied.
Use the rectangle select tool to crop out your browser tools, etc. - you just want what the front page of your site looks like.
Use Image/Resize and set both Width & Height to 50%.
Save the Image as SiteName.jpg (in your folder if you are at school) replacing site name with the actual site name.
